Dutch health insurance
If you are in the Netherlands for study purposes only, you are not required to be insured under the Health Insurance Act. This means you do not have to enroll with a Dutch health insurer. You can remain insured with the health insurer in your home country.
Students from the EU/EEA & Switzerland may be eligible to receive an European Health Insurance Card (EHIC), which covers the necessary medical costs during their stay.
Please check this with the health insurer in your home country before departure.
Non-EU students must have their own adequate health insurance, often private/international.
Please check this in your home country before departure.
For all international students: If you work or you have an internship, you are mandatory to take out a Dutch medical insurance. When work or internship stops, do not forget to cancel your Dutch basic health insurance (and health benefit).
