Car with foreign number plate
If you are coming with your car with a foreign number plate, you can keep your foreign number plate. This applies because you have an exemption under international law. You do not need to apply for this exemption. You can use your car throughout your studies without paying tax. However, you must be enrolled into an accredited program. Your school or university can tell you if your program is accredited. In case you work next to your studies, then you must register your car into the Dutch vehicle registration system and pay taxes. This is called importing. You arrange the import with the RDW (Netherlands Vehicle Authority). Your car will then receive a Dutch license plate.
