Document Requirements for BRP Registration
When registering in the Netherlands, we ask you to provide several official documents, such as a birth certificate. These documents are important because the municipality needs to register your personal details correctly in the Personal Records Database (BRP).
With these documents, the municipality can, among other things, ensure the following:
- That your personal details match the international documents in your possession.
- That your identity and personal data are officially verified and recorded.
- That errors and ambiguities are prevented in the future.
It is important to make sure that the documents are complete:
If your document is in Dutch, English, German or French, you do not need to have it translated.
In case the document is in a different language than mentioned above, we ask you for an international model or for a translated version by a certified translator, along with the original document.
If your document comes from a country outside the European Union, it must be legalised or provided with an apostille (a simplified form of legalisation for countries that are part of the Apostille Convention).
