A new vision for the future related to an attractive housing market!
An attractive housing market having enough to offer; that is an important attraction for our region and is not only essential for local people, but also for internationals and the Belgian cross-border people who are looking into housing possibilities in our area. Economic developments, a good quality workforce and an attractive living with enough living space are important factors. In ‘Zeeuws-Vlaanderen’ there are many opportunities. Early this year, ‘Onbegrensd Zeeuws-Vlaanderen ’ has instructed ‘In.Fact.Research’ to conduct a research into the demography and housing needs in Zeeuws-Vlaanderen.
The aim of this research is to assemble demographic developments in ‘Zeeuws-Vlaanderen’ from a cross-border perspective and also to indicate the consequences for housing needs. The results of this study show that more and more people from abroad have come to live in ‘Zeeuws-Vlaanderen’. This is due to the available vacancies and the available (affordable) homes. The results also show that there are opportunities to increase this stream in the future, especially in the sense of cross-border thinking. One of the conditions for this is that the right houses are offered at the right locations. The housing demand is very different, both in terms of target groups and housing requirements; this requires requires customization. The existing housing will need to be addressed; however, also adding new quality plus adding new residential products, is essential. This can increase the overall quality level, it can serve specific groups and it can promote the flow.
The research is endorsed by the three colleges of Mayor and City Counsel Members of Hulst, Sluis and Terneuzen. The results of the research are used as a segment in drawing up the regional vision for ‘Zeeuws-Vlaanderen’ and the regional housing vision.
